Neil Cowley to host new Jazz TV series live from Metropolis Studios
Next month the world renowned Metropolis Studios in West London becomes the home of Jazz@Metropolis, the studio from which a brand new jazz focused television series is to be filmed. The production is a joint venture between Metropolis Studios and FKMtv whose production team includes many of those that played a crucial role in the internationally successful Live from Abbey Road (Channel 4). Their aim is to highlight the influence jazz has had in shaping popular music and culture, while replicating the production values established in that ground breaking music show.
Jazz@Metropolis is a stylish magazine programme that combines live music (a mix of two established and up and coming acts perform each week) with exclusive content and pre-recorded features covering a number of areas including a delve in to the vaults of Jazz history, artist profiles and a strand on the business behind the show business. The programme is filmed in front of an invited studio audience and hosted by Neil Cowley who will chat to the artists, the audience and high profile jazz fans from all walks of life. Pianist Cowley leads his own critically acclaimed trio, the Neil Cowley Trio and is “one the most important rising talents in music today” says series producer Fraser Kennedy. ”In addition, he has a vivacious personality and is a superb communicator. When he appeared on the pilot show, his warmth and enthusiasm for music shone though”
The first of the live shows will be filmed at Metropolis Studios, West London on 8th and 9th November, with subsequent shows filmed on 15th, 16th and 22nd 23rd November. Appearing on the first show is British-Asian clarinetist and composer Arun Ghosh and Danish pianist Carsten Dahl. Further artists include Kurt Elling, Kris Bowers, Get the Blessing and many more.
The initial series will be a run of six x 52 minute programmes and is being distributed by Brighton based ‘espressotv’ who are courting a number of international broadcasters.
