It’s been a very good year so far for Soundtracks from popular feature films. First there was the runaway success of Disney’s Frozen
which has so far sold over eight million copies worldwide as well as having the most weeks at No. 1 for a soundtrack since 1998’s Titanic
Another Disney film soundtrack did exceptionally well when Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album in history consisting entirely of previously unreleased songs to score a #1.
When it comes to choosing the soundtrack for one of the most hotly anticipated blockbusters of the year, the score has to work as a stand alone piece of art rather than just an accompaniment to a movie. This is why David Bowie anointed “Sound of the Future” New Zealander Lorde was put in charge of curating the soundtrack to this year’s The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1. Lorde’s presence on the project not only adds artistic integrity but a real chance of chart success coming off the back of last years Pure Heroine also mastered by Stuart.
Lorde – Yellow Flicker Beat
The album itself, mastered here at Metropolis by Stuart Hawkes, features many popular contributors including The Chemical Brothers, HAIM, Bat For Lashes, Charli XCX, Ariana Grande and CHVRCHES. Add that to the original Lorde written tracks and this album looks certain to continue the strong successes of soundtrack albums in the UK and US Charts.
