Metropolis Engineer Xavier Stephenson picked up the ‘Rising Star’ award at the ProSoundNews Awards in front of a packed out industry audience at Ministry of Sound.
Since joining Metropolis as an assistant, Xavier has established himself as one of the hardest working and in-demand engineers in the business.
Honing his skills through assisting on a diverse range of recording sessions such as Eric Clapton, The Who, Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, U2, Elton John, Dizzee Rascal, Mark Ronson, Katherine Jenkins, Paloma Faith, Miles Kane, Cheryl Cole, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, Talib Kweli, 30 Seconds to Mars, Mika, Razorlight, Lil’ Wayne, Corey Taylor and Duffy.
Xavier has also assisted on three-time Grammy Award winning mix engineer Robert Orton on projects such as Frankmusik, Darren Hayes, Nicole Scherzinger and Sting, and double Grammy Award winning mix engineer Tom Elmhirst on projects such as James Morrison and Corinne Bailey Rae.
Always accommodating, Xavier has engineered for artists such as One Night Only, Neyo, Parachute, Westlife, Alexandra Burke, and the critically acclaimed Clock Opera, developing along the way a reputation as a drum recording specialist with the ability to meet wide ranging and demanding client requests. He has also engineered for producer Rodney Jerkins.
More recently, Xavier has engineered for Rihanna, Lana del Rey, Example, David Guetta, Rita Ora, Carl Barat (Eyes on Film), King Charles, Editors and The Joy Formidable’s recent album “Wolf’s Law” for Atlantic. He has also recently started to step out as a mix engineer in his own right, mixing for artists such as La Roux and UK rapper Ty.
Xavier has also worked closely with Sam Wheat on our live to vinyl cuts, looking after live monitoring for The Maccabees, White Lies, The Coral, The Bees, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Drums and Tinchy Stryder.
