Based in the prestigious Power House in Chiswick, home of the legendary Metropolis Studios, the ACM Industry Diploma course has been designed to provide students with intensive and practical training, offering a progressive study path, leading to a potential vocation within the music industry.
Students have access to ACM@Metropolis’ state-of-the-art facilities including the MIT suite and recording studios at Metropolis and further studios, networking areas and Creativity Centre at ACM’s Guildford campus (1hr away by train).
This programme gives students an intensive vocational experience combining the opportunity to develop world-class skills, while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the music industry.
Successful completion of this course may also open up the possibility of progression into many related degree programmes, including the ACM Music Production and Creative Sound Design Degrees. *
The Industry Qualification is taught over 26 weeks. In addition to lectures, students are encouraged to undertake individual and group practice and get involved with the numerous extra curricular and ‘Industry Link’ activities.

Music Production IQ Course Breakdown
Compulsory Modules include:
– Studio Recording
Developing the advanced skills and knowledge required to operate in a professional studio environment. Using mixing desks, multi-track recorders, monitoring systems, synchronization, basic acoustics, live recording, outboard FX and mastering.
– Music Technology
Based largely in Logic software, this module covers many aspects of music production including: Software / hardware, MIDI, keyboard skills, sequencing, sampling, synthesis, sound editing and score writing. This module also gives the opportunity for practical development of skills gained in other areas of the course.
– Music Business
Presents the opportunity to discover how business and marketing can enable musicians to realise the commercial potential of their skills. The Music Business takes an overview of the music industry and how to succeed in a highly competitive marketplace.Optional Modules (Choose 3 of these 4 options):
– Composition and Arrangement
Composing, arranging and producing music to a brief, examining a wide range of genres including hit records, film/TV music, game music and radio jingles. Students are able to develop an understanding of how music is structured and study how to apply knowledge in practical situations.
– Post Production
To introduce students to the concepts and issues involved in combining non-musical sound with image, whether in films, commercials or TV programmes. The relationship will be examined from both a technical and aesthetic standpoint as well as providing students with a historical overview of its development from the early 1920s up to its contemporary usage. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in some of the more common sound image techniques.
– Electronic Music Production
In this module you will be taken through the more common techniques used in electronic music production. Based predominantly around Ableton Live, this module will start with the fundamentals and swiftly move on to some more experimental techniques and encourage you to find your trademark sound.
– Digital Production Technique
This module will appeal to those who are aiming to be studio engineers. The module starts with the basics of recording in Pro Tools software, and develops your recording, editing and mixing technique in the digital realm. This module will complement the practical side of the Studio Recording module.

Qualification
This is an ACM Accredited Programme aimed at training students in a vocational pathway direct to industry. On successful completion students will receive an ACM Certificate of Achievement. This qualification has no formal recognition as an entry qualification for Higher Education study.Duration – Accelerated Study

Entry Requirements
Confident performers and emerging songwriters with existing and proven ability in their field or discipline.
Minimum age 16
18 preferred as some opportunities involve working in licensed venues.
