Bio

Cecilia started working at Metropolis in July 2021 as a receptionist and runner after graduating from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Music Technology and French. 

She has since progressed to being an Assistant Studio Engineer, helping out on a range of sessions; vocal tracking, full band sessions and recording for immersive audio projects, as well as lending a hand on our Live to Vinyl and Clash Live series.

She has previous experience working on the technical team at Mountford Hall, an O2 Academy venue in Liverpool, as well as being a crew member on Neil Cowley’s Battery Life tour in early 2023. Cecilia enjoys being part of the creative process whether she’s working with new or established artists and is always keen to learn from every session.

Bio

Joe first joined Metropolis in 2018. At first, he was working as a runner whilst finishing his university studies. Joe has found his passion for recording and all things audio at a young age, having trained in drumming and orchestral percussion since he was 8. What better place to start his career than a music studio? Driven, talented and friendly, Joe progressed quickly and started assisting on sessions with the likes of Burna Boy, Stormzy, Wizkid and AJ Tracey.

During the pandemic years, Joe spent some time freelancing and working as a full-time assistant at Dean St Studios. At Dean St, Joe developed his skills on sessions with a variety of clients including George Ezra, KSI, FKA Twigs and Hans Zimmer.

Since returning to Metropolis in early 2022, Joe has been able to apply and expand upon his new-found knowledge base through sessions with The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Rick Astley, Boy George, Black Eyed Peas, will.i.am, WILLOW, Ella Henderson, Leigh Anne, Jax Jones, Calum Scott, Disclosure, George Ezra, Raye, Travis Scott, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tion Wayne, AJ Tracey, Headie One, Bakar…. To name just a few.

Bio

Harpaal is an incredibly dedicated assistant engineer.

He has an innate ability to ensure the room has a great vibe, in order to allow artists maximum creativity. Often resulting in him being requested by the same artists time and again.

This has allowed him to play an integral part in projects with Stormzy, AJ Tracey and Bakar, to name a few. Harpaal also worked on Record Store Day 2020’s live-to-vinyl recording with The Big Moon and live-to-vinyl with Nothing But Thieves.

Maher is an incredibly considerate and conscientious engineer, always happy to help and nothing is too much trouble for him.

He can often be seen ‘literally’ running around the building. But his ability to be super humanly accommodating isn’t the only string to his bow, he is a fantastically talented up and coming engineer and certainly one to watch.

Maher has worked with American Producer Rex Kudo for artists Juice WRLD and M.I.A.and also assisted the recording of Wizkid – “Made in Lagos”, Jess Glynne – “I’ll be there” and Post Malone – “Allergic”.

Raye & Hans Zimmer – Mother Nature

Vocal engineering for Raye on the British institution that is the Planet Earth series. Hans Zimmer’s composing created a moving backdrop for the words of Sir David Attenborough. A stunning collaboration.

Dodie – Live To Vinyl

Engineered & mixed this beautifully crafted live-to-vinyl set which featured all of Dodie’s trademark character and charm taking the listener from the intimate to soaring soundscapes.  

George Ezra – Amazon Live (Sony 360RA session)

Record & mixed this reimagining of 6 tracks from his chart-topping album Gold Rush Kid specifically for immersive audio. Using multiple immersive recording arrays we sonically mapped studio A for George’s performance delivering a truly unique experience.

Everything Everything – Live To Vinyl

Engineered & mixed one of the most ambitious live-to-vinyl sessions. The guys delivered a stunning set whilst we stretched the limits of the studio’s flexibility to creatively deliver a truly special session.   

Common – Oblivion (Noname/Common/Ayoni)

Vocal engineering for the legendary American rapper. Always a highlight when Common comes to town.

Growing up in a house surrounded by music Liam’s fascination with sound started in his teens when he picked up a guitar. Hundreds of hours trying to emulate his favourite bands’ guitar tones led him down a rabbit hole of recording techniques, mics, capturing sound, mixing, and engineering. A rabbit hole that arguably Liam is still totally, 100% immersed in – albeit a two-time Grammy and MPG award-winning rabbit hole. 

With Liam’s passion for new and emerging technology and his knowledge of Metropolis’s analogue gear, this engineering experience has put Liam at the forefront of modern-day engineering.

During his time at Metropolis, Liam has worked with some of the most influential artists in Pop and Hip Hop, such as Adele, David Guetta, Drake, Future, Rihanna, AJ Tracey and Stormzy to name just a few and his work can be regularly heard on TV and radio.

Liam has a simple philosophy when either recording or mixing: Enhance the song but always keep the artist’s vision and direction for the song intact.

With over 15 years of experience in the recording industry, Paul has worked with a wide range of artists, from up-and-coming indie acts to some of the biggest names in pop, rock and hip-hop. Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Lewis Capaldi, Ella Henderson, Kid Cudi, Will.i.am, Jessie J and many more have trusted Paul to help deliver their artistic vision.

Paul’s journey into music began at an early age when he started playing in bands around Essex before discovering a passion for the technical side of music when he was given a Tascam PortaStudio 4-track recorder. After completing a degree in Creative Music Technology at the University of Hull, Paul interned at a variety of studios before landing a job at Metropolis, initially as a runner, before working through the ranks to eventually become Chief Engineer in 2018.

Since joining Metropolis, Paul has worked on countless albums, singles, and EPs, and has become known for his calm demeanour and ability to bring the artist’s vision to life.

Paul’s approach to mixing is characterised by his attention to detail, his ability to bring out the best in each element of a mix, and his commitment to creating a dynamic and cohesive sound. He believes that every song has a unique story to tell and that his role as a mix engineer is to help bring that story to life and serve the song.
