Metropolis Mastering – Supporting Music Professionals

masteringmgheader

Metropolis Mastering & Music Gateway have teamed up to provide opportunities to support new music and creative professionals.

This partnership has been formed in a bid to encourage the music industry to fairly pay the production community. Music Gateway members can access free mastering on one of their tracks when they successfully create a ‘Hire a Producer’ project on the Music Gateway system. The benefit being that artists get more choice and guidance to work with the best possible producers for their project and will also receive the highest quality audio, having had their track mastered from the best engineers in the business.

“Metropolis are pleased to be supporting artists with their new creative projects. We hope that through this collaboration with Music Gateway, more artists can benefit from professional mastering & production work.”
Dan Baldwin Mastering Manager at Metropolis Mastering

Both Metropolis and Music Gateway are part investing in the opportunity to ensure that the engineers behind the scenes are also paid fairly as well as the producers. The budgets have been advised by the Music Producers Guild (MPG) who are also supporting the campaign.

“I’m pleased to see an initiative to support fair pay for production work, it’s something we strongly believe in at The MPG. Providing a better way for artists to find & hire professionals is a definite step in the right direction so I’m glad to see Music Gateway and Metropolis Studios join forces to make this happen.”
Mick Glossop Executive Director of The Music Producers Guild

The campaign sees Metropolis Studios strengthening its stance on offering opportunities to the worldwide music community and creating a more level working environment. This partnership should see artists and bands further their careers and create better quality content for themselves and consumers to enjoy.

“We’re always working on helping and improving our members opportunities and pathways. It’s invaluable having companies like Metropolis to offer these opportunities in a way that is productive for them, us and producers. We’re serious about creating a level playing field for people in the industry and if our members are too, they’ll take on board the message.”
Jonathan Bond Brand & Product Manager at Music Gateway

B-Side Project Returns To Metropolis

Now in its sixth year, the respected competition continues to provide a cross-genre platform for new artists with a heavyweight industry judging panel…

Registration for B-Side Project 2016 is officially open, marking the sixth consecutive year of the renowned, global remix contest. Musicians, singer-songwriters, bands and composers of all genres are invited to enter their original tracks at www.b-sideproject.org before registration closes on 13th September. Artists are then paired with electronic music producers from around the world, to remix these tracks before the 30th October deadline.

The B-Side Project, sponsored by Prism Sound for a second year, creates networks between musicians, producers and the wider industry, merging genres and providing real world opportunities to release their music, alongside additional platforms to amplify their careers.

The winner of ‘overall best remix’ can expect a glittering array of prizes and opportunities, worth over £15,000, including, a Lyra Pro Audio Interface (also awarded to the musician / band who entered the original track), a pair of Amphion One15 Studio Monitors, Studio Package One acoustic panels from GIK Acoustics, mic and headphones from Audio Technica, a Seaboard Rise from Roli, custom-made ear protection from ACS, software from IK Multimedia and more! Individual awards can be won plus the chance to gain a publishing contract and record releases – a huge opportunity for both original artists and remix producers.

The winning producer will be invited to watch their track being mastered at Metropolis Studios in London, where artists such as The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Paul Weller, The Who and Amy Winehouse have all recorded. Each of the remix tracks in the top 10 will be mastered at Metropolis and featured on an album to be digitally released on B-Side Recordings (distributed by Republic of Music), in early 2017.

Last year’s B-Side Project saw 160 entrants from 18 countries take part in a competition of the highest standards. In 2016 expect even more entries and the bar to be raised yet further, with the winner revealed at an awards event at Metropolis Studios in London on 1st December. This event will also be streamed live on the internet offering wider exposure for the winner.

With the help of industry sponsors and partners, this year including Prism Sound, Amphion (a new sponsor for 2016), Metropolis, PRS and more, B-Side Project has helped numerous producers and artists since its start in 2009. 2014 winner Hugh Hardie is now signed to Hospital Records and continues to enjoy a successful career. He joins the judging panel again this year.

The judging panel is an indicator of the high regard in which B-Side Project is held within the industry. Last year’s judges are all returning, including Roni Size, Utah Saints, Krystal Roxx, Hugh Hardie, Matt Schwartz, Glen Nicholls (Future Funk Squad), Cut La Roc and Estelle Rubio. In addition to this wealth of experience, also joinging the panel are Grammy Award winners, La Roux, Hospital Records artist, Nu:Tone, Studio DMI’s mixing and mastering virtuoso, Luca Protelesi plus colleague Scott Banks, Godfather of house, Marshall Jefferson, drum & bass innovator, Talvin Singh and founding member and bassist of Killing Joke, Martin Glover a.k.a ‘Youth’.

For any artist trying to get a foothold in a highly competitive industry, B-Side Project offers a rare opportunity; an established global contest offering a widely promoted platform for new music, access to industry professionals, potential publishing and recording deals, a huge prize package and the chance to create an invaluable network of contacts. B-Side Project helps emerging music talent build careers.

About B-Side Project:

B-Side Project is an annual global remix contest founded in 2009. The main objectives are to merge music and to provide additional promotional and career boosting platforms for unsigned music artists both of live music and electronic production. The B-Side Project provides a network for musicians and producers to instigate extended creativity and collaboration.

European Studio Alliance – Metropolis, SGA & Le Third Floor

Metropolis Studios and Le Third Floor make French connection with Studio de la Grande Armee, a unique new studio alliance.

We are extremely pleased to announce this unique and innovative partnership. This is the first alliance between the two recording studios and media service companies collaborating with their partner, Le Third Floor.

The three-way agreement provides Studio de la Grande Armee with a tailored mastering service from Metropolis Mastering, via Le third Floor who would select an appropriate mastering engineer for a project, oversee the mastering and deliver the master back to SGA in Paris.

“Thanks to our ongoing partnership with Le Third Floor we are delighted to associate ourselves with SGA. Our approach to business, sonic excellence and service are very much aligned and we are excited at the prospect of what we can achieve together, domestically and internationally.”
Ian Brenchley CEO Metropolis Studios (Via Music Week)

“I had the idea to create an alliance between the two biggest recording studios in Europe – Metropolis Studios and Studio de la Grande Armee (SGA). SGA has been established in Paris for more than 45 years, but they do not have their own mastering department. I suggested that Le Third Floor could offer SGA mastering services at Metropolis and provide a bespoke service for their clients.

Metropolis benefits from increased business from France, and SGA benefits from the mastering services of top engineers and Le Third Floor makes this alliance possible by overseeing the process on a daily basis. European and international business openings are the key to success in our creative multi-services music business.”
Nicolas Bulostin CEO Le Third Floor

“Our mastering services are provided by Metropolis. We take care of your projects from Paris; we send them to our partner “Le Third Floor”, who handles them directly at Metropolis Mastering in London in order to ensure the highest monitoring quality that we can get on a day-to-day basis. Then, you can come to the studio and listen to your songs mastered by the most highly acclaimed engineers in the world.
Zach Hanoun CEO SGA

Waste Of Paint

You know that ‘thing’, that weird ‘thing’ which you can’t describe. The ‘thing’ which makes the hairs on your arms stand on end….
You find your self smiling, listening keenly to two engagingly prolific songwriters who have found it, that ……. ‘Thing’

The lyrics are brave, stripped naked across a lo-fi tapestry of crafted tones & echo’s.
Some songs will break your heart, no doubt about it. The single Baudelaire Waltz is a confession, an acceptance of a mental condition that prevents happy ever after. Conjuring visions of Bright Eyes at their most honest & poetic.

Equally powerful but from another place entirely we find ‘for Molly’, a delirious celebration of music evoking memories of early Bowie. Adventurous & unafraid.

Waste Of Paint, the architects of these addictive tales have that rare quality. They have that ‘thing’. They have found something in each other which enables them to create music without boundaries. They compliment each other incredibly….. The musical technician, the haunted songwriter. Working without fear and constraint. Pouring their souls into writing together. The result is a labour of love, hate, and sceptical nature.

This is a beautiful advert for music, coloured by 2 lives lived to breaking point.
To not use all this emotion, to let the colours fade into the landscape would simply be a Waste Of Paint.
